Revealed Miracles – Pregnant Orthodox Jew Falls In Niagara brings us to Awe

To fall off a cliff at Niagara River means death to most people. Only a miracle can save any person from such tragedy. To survive a steep fall off a cliff is called a revealed miracle. It’s also what I witnessed while hiking on a trail near  Niagara Falls. My sister in-law – Nechama, 7 months pregnant orthodox Jew, had fallen 50 feet while hiking Glenn falls on the Canada side of Niagara Falls. For sure she was dead. I thought.

A nephew, Mendel, came running as we trailed behind our group. I was walking with my 4 month old in hand and 2 of my little kids walking with my husband. “Nechama fell and went down to the rocks.” “Stop Joking”, I said. “No, she fell and is down the rocks” “You don’t joke about things like this”, I heard myself saying as this distasteful joke. His father Yoseph, knowing his son too well knew Mendel was not joking. Nechama had fallen almost 60 feet by the river feeding the Niagara falls.

My heart stopped. This is a nightmare, absolutely the worst thing that could happen while on vacation. The type of thing you don’t plan for because it’s far from a possible event happening. I start to feel fear. She is dead. All I picture is my sister in law in a pool of blood by some rocks. There was no way to survive this. She is 7 months pregnant.

“Nechama is alive and talking,” Mendel says. “What?? She’s alive?” Instead of being overjoyed, I felt a sudden sadness because I pictured her in so much pain at having lost her baby. If she was alive, there’s no chance the baby is ok. She wanted this pregnancy so bad.” I hear myself thinking.

We walk very carefully at this point, walking with fear at the awareness of the danger this path can be. I look over the cliff and see nothing but sharp rocks. Far from any distinguishable words I hear Nechama communicating with her husband. Nechama is alive. She’s alive. It was a miracle Nechama, 7 months pregnant Orthodox Jew, had survived a fall in Niagara.

God Performs Miracles

This was so unbelievable that she was alive. How could it be that she survived such a fall and be ok. She was alive only because a miracle had taken place. There’s no other explanation when something like this happens because it’s so obvious. As if one is seeing its magic. It has caused such a sensation because although we know miracles happen, we forget until we get reminded.

For the religious, we often hear God performs miracles for  us all the time. We don’t see them because our lives are functioning in the normal sense. We live our lives and not notice that it takes a certain shield for us to drive without getting in a car crash, with having food on our table, not getting diseases. We see all this as normal, our minds and thinking match our expectations.

In reality, being healthy is a blessing. Driving on a road with fast moving cars and returning home in one piece is a blessing. But, to call them a miracle? That’s not our reality. Then, there are events we see as miracles that when we see them performed, we can’t help but feel awe and gratitude.

A miracle is such a sight because we witness the energy of the unbelievable, and we come close to seeing an energy so incredible that it breaks nature. Our expectations were surpassed, that perspective makes it a miracle.

To see a miracle, it brings us to a state of awe because it reaffirms our beliefs. Our faith and our hopes. We believe there is a God who performs miracles for us, we know that. Yet to see it with our own eyes, it’s another experience. We are taken aback by something that shouldn’t have happened and we are so grateful that the universe bent itself to see us alive another day.

Awe and Action Through Miracles

Then, there is to see a miracle, and to have a miracle performed for you. People who have a near death experience or are stricken with a disease and come out on the other side healthy have major transformation after the event. The need is born to be better, to change life habits that will reveal our potential.

Nechama, my sister-in-law who fell off a cliff in Niagara and had a miracle performed, felt this need to see what was the purpose of that event happening to her? What was she called to do out of this experience? What was her mission? She was moved to publicize the miracle. To let people know God is watching over us at every moment. We can’t forget that.

As an observer, seeing a miracle brings us to this state of awe and gratitude. Can we bring ourselves to this state of amazement on our own on a consistent basis? The answer is Yes. Yes we can. How? Meditation. A specific meditation that wakes our fibers to oneness, infinite and surrender.

Meditation Works Like Miracle

Meditation is an awareness and focus on something specific. First, it starts by surrendering to the now; presence. Only when all of you is focused on meditation:  your body and your mind, can you receive. Then, after nothingness, you proceed to meditate on the king of the world. His greatness, oneness, infinite being that creates all and gives life every second. He created you and watches over you. You are a piece of God from above. A piece of that greatness is in you.

That thought is amazing. That thought has the power to bring you to awe. We meditate on wanting to do better, do more for our creator. We surrender.

That day Nechama, 7 months pregnant Orthodox Jew, fell 50 ft in the Niagara and survived was a miracle. An event we couldn’t believe was possible. It surpassed our expectations and it reaffirmed God is truly with us every step of the way. That knowing gives us such comfort, hope and gladness. Without having an unbelievable event happen to us, we can get to that state of awe and gratitude. We can arouse ourselves to gratitude and oneness through meditation. Why do we want to be in that state? because it is through that state that we reach our potential. We make the effort to work on our mission when we have that undeniable need to do.
